Mavis K. Monson, age 70, passed away on Sunday, September 19th, 2010. Â

Mavis grew up in Milwaukee WI, and was a graduate Washington High School. She was active in Girl Scouts and received the Juliette Low award and represented Girl Scouts USA at a conference in Adelboden, Switzerland. Â Â
 Â
Mavis held a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She worked as an educator for the Wisconsin Electric Power Company. She then worked for over 22 years with the University of Wisconsin Extension Department and retired with the title of Professor Emeritus.Â
 Â
For several years she was a licensed pilot, enjoying short trips in and around Wisconsin. Mavis was a passionate gardener and enjoyed many activities including bowling, golf, reading and spending time with her husband and family.Â

Mavis is survived by her sister Ruth Alfter of Delafield, WI; her cousin Nancy; her nephew Kenneth; nieces Karen and Kris; and grand niece Sabrina. Â She was recently preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. ""Bob"" Osterkil.Â
A special thanks to Mavis's neighbors and friends who helped her in so many ways. The family also wishes to acknowledge the thoughtful care she received from her health care providers as well as the many friends who visited in person or by telephone throughout her illness.Â

A celebration of Mavis's life will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens Commons, 3330 Atwood Avenue, Madison, WI 53704.Â
