Mary Virginia Schroeder

Madison – Mary Virginia Schroeder, 81, passed away on March 03, 2024.   Mary was born on February 11, 1943 in Racine, WI to Arthur Wesley and Jean Marie (Larson) Eastman.  Mary married John Michael Schroeder on July 21, 1984 and he survives her.  She graduated from Washington Park High School Racine, WI in 1961 and the University of Wisconsin – Parkside in 1979.  Mary worked her entire career at her family company, Merchants Moving and Storage Co., Racine, WI, serving as Secretary-Treasurer from 1980 to 1999.  She was also involved in many volunteer activities throughout the years, some in Racine, more in Lake Geneva serving on the Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Foundation Board and the Benefit Ball Committee.  Mary’s relocation to Madison led to volunteering with the Friends of the UW Health and UW Carbone Cancer Center Advisory Board. In addition to John, Mary is survived by three children, Julia (Michael) Fischer, James (Bridget) Orth and Andrew (Katia) Orth, two stepdaughters, Anne (John) Walbrun and Wendy (Ronald) Braun and fifteen special grandchildren, Adam and Ryan King, Francie, Winnie, and Burke Orth, Helena, Hazel and Louisa Orth, Elle and Katie Walbrun, Jake (Jackie) Braun and Abby Braun and Geoffrey, Amanda and Lucas Fischer.  She is also survived by two sisters, Joan (Howard) Olson and Carolyn (Edquist) and one brother, James (Bonnie) Eastman.  In addition, she is survived by other relatives and friends.  The family would like to especially thank Doctors Asthana and Eastman for Mary’s good care.  Attic Angel Community was her residence for the past year and we are very grateful for the close attention given to Mary’s care by the staff, most especially the marvelous aides.  The family appreciates the support provided by Agrace Hospice over the final days. Memorials can be sent to the University of Wisconsin Foundation for credit to the Alzheimer's Research Center https://www.adrc.wisc.edu/ or to the charity of one’s choice.  A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison WI 53705 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.  A memorial service will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Rd, Madison, WI at 1:00 pm.  Family will greet friends from 12:00 pm until the time of service at the church.   A private burial service will be held in Racine, WI.
