MADISON - Mary Schiro, age 86, of Madison, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at Meriter Hospital with her family by her side. Born June 9, 1928 to Peter and Angeline (nee Wrend) Schiro, Mary was a lifelong resident of Madison, growing up in the Greenbush area. She graduated from Central High School and became employed at the University of Wisconsin in the Registration Department. Mary enjoyed cooking Italian food but was also known for her famous potato salad. She loved preparing meals for her large family and gathering everyone together. Mary was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish and the Italian American Women's Club. Mary also enjoyed being with friends, and traveling to see new places including New York City, the Bahamas, and her favorite place to visit, Hawaii.
Mary is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, two sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Cerniglia and Lucy Halleran; and brothers, Vito, Frank, George, Dominic, and Ben.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aster Retirement Community, the exceptional eighth floor nursing staff and doctors at Meriter, and Gail Gaustad, N.P., who provided excellent care and friendship for many years.
