NEWARK, DE - Mary "Betsy" Van Roo passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Newark, DE. She was born on March 1, 1948 in Madison the daughter of Chester and Mary Lou (Bell) Van Roo.
She was a graduate of West High School and continued her education as an English major at UW-Madison.
Betsy was a very talented figure skater, training and competing throughout the Midwest. She was a member of the Wagon Wheel Figure Skating Club in Rockton, IL, and skated there under world renowned coach Slavka Kohout.
Following her amateur career, she traveled as a professional skater with Holiday on Ice, making appearances throughout the US, Canada, Central and South America.
Betsy was a gifted artist and writer. She was a devoted animal lover, especially cats and sheep, and adopted many rescue cats over the years.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Cannon; sister E. Jane (Greeley) Murray and her husband Doug Murray; and cousins Jane (Delwiche) Napolitano, Jim (Nan) Delwiche, John (Kathy) Delwiche, and Sally (Delwiche) Dux. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Lou Greeley, father, Chester Van Roo and brother "Rip" Van Roo.
A memorial service will be held graveside at FOREST HILL CEMETERY in Madison on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11 a.m.
