Mary Pierce

McFarland- Mary Margaret Pierce, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. She was born on April 6, 1936 the daughter of Alvin and Margaret Carew.

Mary graduated from Green Lake High School in 1953 and attended UW Madison. She married Robert Lee Pierce on June 12, 1954. Together they raised five children and enjoyed weekends at the family cottage in Princeton.

Mary worked at Rennebohms, United States Air Force Institute (USAFI), and for the City of Madison Equal Opportunities Commission for many years until her retirement. She volunteered at Meriter Retirement Community assisting seniors with computer skills. Her belief about lifelong learning and her love of children lead her to volunteer as a teacher’s assistant to Ms. Kathi Schlender-Adams for many years. Mary created two scholarships in the McFarland community, one in her mother’s name, and one in her own, to further the recipients education.

She was an avid reader, loved to garden and bird watch, and enjoyed her grandchildren. Mary was a proud woman, she worked very hard to keep mobile and live in her home.

She is survived by her five children, Diane Lasley, Bob Pierce, Michael Pierce, Linda (Dan) Pottinger, and Peter Pierce; six grandchildren, Celeste, Anna, Garrett, Madalyn, Victoria, and Joseph; and seven great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; her son-in-law, William “Junie” Lasley; sister, Jean (Roy) Jones; and two brothers, John “Jack” and David Carew.

Celebration of Mary’s life will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland, with a time of sharing starting at 6:30pm. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake, WI.

Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to the McFarland Education Foundation.
