Mary Mitroff

Mary Ann Mitroff
September 30, 1922 - October 27, 2013

Mary, age 91, passed away on October 27, 2013 surrounded by family. She was born in Chicago on September 30, 1922 to Peter and Anna (Koteles) Schneider. She married Louis Mitroff in Chicago on October 4, 1947. Upon retirement they relocated to Madison.

Mary was the beloved wife of Louis Mitroff for 66 years, cherished mother of Bruce (Pamela) Mitroff, Karen (Paul) Matteoni and Glenn Mitroff (Daniel Lippitt), grandmother of Samantha Mitroff and Matthew Mitroff and godmother and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Family and home were top priorities for Mary. She worked part-time for Continental Illinois Bank for 26 years and raised a family before the days of child care. Mary loved gardening, shopping, sewing, cooking and collecting cookbooks. Throughout her life she kept in touch with family and friends through frequent visits, card, letters and phone calls. Mary watched concerts, dances and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Loved ones and caregivers will remember Mary's incredible memory regarding details of their lives and her great sense of humor.

Mary was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Queen of Peace, 401 S. Owen Drive at 10:00 am Thursday, October 31. Immediately following the visitation at 12 noon, a funeral Mass and departing prayers normally said at the graveside will be read at the church. Lunch will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Agrace Hospice and Queen of Peace would be appreciated. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Mary and Louis during Mary's illness.
