MADISON/FT. MYERS, FL- Mary McGary, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, February 27, 2017.
She was born on July 22, 1934 in Edgerton, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Helen Goebel. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1956 and went on to teach high school English in Milwaukee, WI. There, she met Dr. Richard McGary, a dentist and officer in the United States Air Force. They married in 1958 and moved to Roswell, New Mexico for a short period. They returned to Madison where Richard established his dental practice.
In college she served as president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. Later, she was active in P.E.O. as well as the Attic Angel Association. She was a volunteer for many community organizations and an avid supporter of Badger sports. She was very active within her church community for well over fifty years. Mary was the co-founder of Conventions Plus Tours in Madison. In retirement, she enjoyed time spent with family and friends in Egg Harbor, WI and Ft. Myers, FL.
Mary was preceded in death by her two parents, William and Helen Goebel. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Richard McGary of Madison; daughter Susan Buse (Donald) of Chicago, IL; daughter Victoria Jaeger (Todd) of Maple Grove, MN; son Dr. Eric McGary of Los Angeles, CA. ; and four grandchildren, Peter and Clare Buse, and Emily and James Jaeger.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
In her memory donations can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
