Mary Lynn Sprague (LeMoine), age 71, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, from pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in the home she cherished and met her diagnosis with brave acceptance, selflessly providing comfort to those she loved.
Born on October 1, 1953, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, Mary grew up in Platteville, the second of four children. A high school scholarship athlete, she carried that same determination throughout her life. Guided by unwavering faith, she lived with a spirit as vibrant as her voice. Mary was beautiful, bold, and never afraid to be heard. Those who knew her best will remember her laughter filling a room and her fierce devotion to her family and friends.
Mary dedicated herself to raising two children as a single mother, meeting every challenge with grace and resourcefulness. In 1983, she married Jesse Sprague, and together they welcomed a daughter, completing their family of five. Above all, Mary's greatest priority was ensuring her children always felt loved and supported.
Mary began her career at National Guardian and then worked for Wisconsin State Life Insurance Fund for more than 30 years, making countless lifelong friends.
Outside of work and family, Mary found joy in tending to her yard with care, traveling, listening to music, and watching Stephen Colbert. She cherished her many circles of friends, from loyal golf partners to lively card party companions, and built genuine connections with each of them. Known as the life of the party, she was hilariously unfiltered and adored by all who knew her. Her enthusiasm for life shone through in her beautifully decorated home, which she transformed for every season and holiday, creating a warm and festive space where everyone felt welcome.
Mary is survived by her children, Melissa Schlegel, Sarah (Andrew) Napgezek, Mac Vesperman, Christine (Bradley) Moldenhauer, and her daughter in-law Jennifer Sprague; her 11 adored grandchildren, Fischer, Jack, Macie, Anabelle, Gabriel, Ethan, Mac, Jesse, Isabelle, William and George; her siblings, Michelle (Brian) Bazala, Melinda (Robert) Funseth, and Michael (Amy) LeMoine and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry forward her legacy of strength, faith, and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Sprague; her parents, Herbert and Marilyn LeMoine; and her son, Jason Sprague.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at St. James Lutheran Church in Verona, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m.
Thank you to all the family and friends who supported Mary and her children during her brief diagnosis. We are devastated by her loss, but we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, laughing, and embracing the love of her life.
