Mary Pat Koranda
June 21, 1948 – March 23, 2026
Mary ‘Pat’ (McCamy) Koranda of Waunakee, WI was born June 21, 1948, and passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026.
Mary Pat grew up with her siblings Nancy Albers and Michael McCamy in Fargo, North Dakota. While in high school her family moved to Greendale, WI where she graduated from Greendale High School in 1966. She went on to attend University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh where she graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology.
It was during her senior year at UW -Oshkosh, when she attended a Welcome Home from Vietnam party and met the guest of honor, Chuck Koranda. It was love at first sight. After a short, long-distance romance, they settled in Racine, WI while Mary Pat worked as an elementary school Speech Pathologist with the Kenosha School District.
It was on August 5, 1972, that Chuck and Mary Pat were united in marriage and spent 52 beautiful years together. Chuck and Mary Pat moved to Sun Prairie, WI and finally made Waunakee their home to raise their two daughters Jennifer and Laura. Mary Pat was a very proud military wife, supporting Chuck while raising their girls as a stay-at-home mom. She was always active in the girls’ activities, was the first parent to sign up to bring the treats, be the band ‘Mom’, and was active in leading the brownie troops and youth groups. Mary Pat started her second career when she took a part-time position as substitute receptionist at Waunakee Remodeling and after 24 years, retired as the HR Director/Office Manager.
Mary Pat was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. With the love and support of Chuck, Mary Pat fought this battle with all she had and won.
Mary Pat had many loves outside of her family. She was an avid crafter, loving to sew, paint, and quilt. She and Chuck loved to travel near and far and for many years spent winters in Pensacola, FL. When at home they could be found kayaking the Madison Lakes in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. Mary Pat dedicated hours to both her vegetable and flower gardens. Throughout her life she enjoyed spending time with friends in various Bowling Leagues, serving her church by leading many different church committees and was a dedicated member of P.E.O. Throughout her life, Mary Pat embraced many roles, always guided by a generous spirit and an unwavering devotion to her passions, family and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Legacy of Deforest for their warmth and compassionate care during MaryPat’s stay.
Mary Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Koranda and her parents, Frank and Lois (Wangen) McCamy. She is survived by her siblings Michael (Kathy) McCamy and Nancy (Tim) Albers; daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Estness, Laura (Chris) Knuston, grandchildren, Brianna and Hailey Estness and Sorin, Malla and Freyja Knuston, along with many more family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 5763 County Rd Q, Waunakee. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in Vienna Cemetery.
