Mary Laverne Van Hulle Jones, aged 97 years, died on July 14, 2025. She was born on a dairy farm near Oconto, Wisconsin on June14, 1928. Her parents were Leona (Reinhardt) and Louis Van Hulle. She attended Elm Grove grade school for eight years, then graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1945 from Oconto High School. She went to the University of Wisconsin Madison where she earned a B.S. degree in Nursing and an M.A. in the History of Science. She worked as a RN at the University Hospital, then known as Wisconsin General and later for the UW Extension, Health and Social Services, Department of Nursing. After retirement she enjoyed hiking, traveling, reading, auditing classes at the University of Wisconsin and spending time with her family.
February 3, 1951 she married Omer Reese Jones at St Joseph Catholic Church in Oconto, Bishop John B. Grellinger officiating. It was a double wedding with her sister, Phyllis and Thomas Murphy.
Her survivors include three children Phyllis (Bill) Jones-Morrison, Timothy Jones of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Patricia (Mark) Weatherhogg of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, her brother Richard, (Barbara) Van Hulle of Oconto, Wisconsin, sister-in-law Marcia Van Hulle of Madison, Wisconsin. She is further survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special to her also were her god children Kathryn (Kitty) Murphy, Sauk City, Wisconsin, Diane Eparvier, Neenah, Wisconsin and Frank Van Hulle, Olympia, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Omer, their daughter Rita, her brothers Norman Van Hulle and his wife Janette, Glenn Van Hulle, her sisters Dolores Van Hulle Eparvier, Patricia Van Hulle Ponto and her husband Vernon Ponto and Phyllis Van Hulle Murphy and her husband Thomas Murphy and a grandson.
At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral. A commemoration of her life will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, Wisconsin on August 16, 2025 from 12 – 4 PM. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin or a charity of your choice.
