In Loving Memory
Mary Elizabeth (Kowalski) Humphrey completed her fifteen-year battle with cancer on September 29th, 2015. Mary was born October 28th, 1961 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter and Charlotte (Conrad) Kowalski. She was married to Tony Humphrey for 28 years. They lived and worked together in Sun Prairie, a city that was a little too small for a Milwaukee born-and-raised girl...
Mary threw a mean horseshoe. She enjoyed finding adventures, solving brain teasers and spending weekends at the Lodge with her girlfriends.
Mary was a fearless and seasoned traveler. She made her own way around the world. She traveled far and wide with both family and friends. Greece remained one of her favorite places. She instilled this love of travel in her family, and together they enjoyed many trips to explore far-away places.
Mary had a green thumb. She had a knack for choosing just the right flowers and coaxing them to bloom in her Vine Street garden. Mary had a passion for art, which she exercised both as an art teacher at Sacred Hearts School of Jesus and Mary and in her personal time. This passion for creating beautiful things, both in the garden and on canvases, is something she shared with her children, Ellie and Ty. It brings them great comfort in knowing that these parts of her spirit live on.
In her departure, Mary leaves behind her husband Tony; children Ellie (Tim) Sherven and Tynan Humphrey. She is the sister to Thomas (Cheryl), Janet McGrorty, Ruth, Marcella Gagnon, Frank, and Robert (Jackie) and the aunt to Elise (Scott), Kristin (David), Mark (Tara), Michelle, Megan (Jon), Cory (Shawn), Monica (Ken), Christopher, Daniel, and Rachel. She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Alice and William Humphrey, brother-in-law, David Humphrey and her very dear friend, Patti Thompson.
A memorial service for Mary will be held Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 11:00am at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace in Sun Prairie. A visitation for Mary will be held from 3:00pm until 5:00pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home and also from 10:00am until the time of service on Sunday. In Mary's memory, donations can be made to the art department at Sacred Hearts School.
A special thank you to Mary's 'Sister Care', Heartland Hospice, Oak Park Place, and Ann Terrill - those who gave their time and energy to be her caretakers.
