Mary Gontarek

MADISON- Mary Suzanne "Sue" Gontarek, age 84, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Sue was born on November 13, 1932 in Eau Claire, WI, the only child of Col. Charlie and Nina (Porter) Kirby. She attended 13 grade schools and 5 high schools including correspondence school after WWII in Korea and Japan. She graduated from Waukegan High School in 1950 and attended Loyola University in New Orleans and the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Sue was united in marriage to Lawrence "Larry" Gontarek on February 11, 1956 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Madison. They raised their 3 children in Hill Farms, and she lived in the home for 55 years.

Prior to her illness, Sue enjoyed many years traveling to Florida, Branson, MO and also many memorable cruises including Hawaii and the Panama Canal.

Sue will be missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Larry; children: Michael, Laura Jane Randall, and Jeananne (Mark) Manthey. She is cherished grandma "Boo" to Terra (Jeff) Strand, Joshua (Ashley Popp) Randall, Michelle (Adam) Rothering, Kevin Manthey, and Leighann and Ryan Gontarek. Sue is an adoring great-grandmother to Zoey, Atticus, and Keira.
