Mary Ziegler

September 9, 1940 — February 28, 2022

Mary Elizabeth Ziegler, age 81, of Middleton, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, February 28th, 2022. Mary was born September 9, 1940, in Waunakee, to Roman and Margaret (Kuehn) Pertzborn. She was the eldest of 11 children.

Mary worked as a dietary cook at Waunakee Manor for more than 35 years. After retirement, Mary treasured her time with her children and grandchildren. Mary was the most selfless person, always putting others first.  Mary was a caregiver to everyone and would never let anyone dote on her. She was a great mom to her six kids and will be remembered for being so much fun.

She loved family gatherings, especially her daily visits and weekend shopping trips with daughter Vicki.  These were very special moments for both of them.  She cherished her weekly dinners, and daily phone calls with her daughters about the weather and current events. Saturday nights were set aside for the Grand Ole Opry and her dreamboat Danny O’Donnell.

She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. It’s hard to explain what an amazing woman she was. She will always be remembered for being a fantastic role model to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Paul (Marie) Ziegler; brothers, Larry, Roman, Ed, Bill Pertzborn; and in-laws, Dave (Vern) Ziegler.

She is survived by her six children, Sharon (Mark) Paulson, Shirley (Greg) Kalscheuer, Vicki (Todd Dexter) Ziegler, John, Scott, Cindy Ziegler; and grandchildren, Lizzy, Emily Ziegler, McKenzie, and Camrin Kalscheuer.

She is further survived by her siblings, Agnes (Lorny) Hellenbrand, Delores Ziegler, Margie Cummings, Mike (Shirley) Pertzborn, Dan (Deb) Pertzborn, Ken (Colleen) Pertzborn; in-laws, Bonnie and Sandy Pertzborn, Barb Ziegler, and Rose (Roger) Ballweg.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 11th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave. Madison, WI 53705.

The family would like to thank all the friends and family who assisted in her care. She spent the last 1 ½ years in the loving care of her daughter Cindy.  A special thanks to Ken Pertzborn, Lizzy Ziegler, Barb Williams, Heidi Knoble, Diane Cushman, and Hartland Hospice.  With their help, she was able to be cared for at home.

Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Friend, we will always love you.
