Mary Ann (Chamberlain) Bartelt, age 85, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at home in Madison. Mary Ann was born in Chicago Illinois to Wheelock Paul and Marian Bernice (Blom) Chamberlain. She was raised in Marquette Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University. Mary Ann worked as a writer and broadcaster for radio stations in Iron Mountain, MI and Green Bay. She married James Bartelt in Marquette, MI in 1952. She was an officer of the Green Bay Service League and the Brown County Historical Society and a co-publisher of "Birth Place of A Commonwealth." She moved to Madison in 1979 and continued to be an active volunteer for her community and church. She was Senior Warden and Vestry member at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison. Mary Ann was key in the effort to the purchase of the present organ at her church. She also volunteered at the Executive Residence during terms of governors of both parties. Mary Ann had a great gift of poetry. She wrote personalized poems for family and friends.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband James; children Ann (Charles) Yeager of Ishpeming Michigan, Betsy (David) Connell of Girdwood, Alaska and Paul (Elizabeth) Bartelt of Howards Grove, Wisconsin; grandchildren John, Matthew, Lucas, Alyssa, Zachary, Katie, and Noah.
Services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Grace Episcopal Church, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison with Rev. Dr. D Jonathan Grieser presiding.
Memorials can be made to Neuroblastoma Research, University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center or Grace Episcopal Church.
