Mary Avalone

Mary Frances Avalone, nee Stevenson, born November 4, 1928, entered eternal rest on August 10, 2014, at age 85, after a courageous, roller coaster ride. She relocated to Waunakee, Wisconsin in June 2011 to be near her family. Mary derived much fulfillment during her more than 50 year membership in Girl Scouts USA. She loved crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was known by many as Nana due to her big heart and patience.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Grazioso and Mary (James) Thony; grandchildren, Michael (Amy), Dawn and Melissa Grazioso, Renee (Daniel) Esparza, Allen and Philip Thony; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Brandon Grazioso, and Olivia Esparza. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Helen Stevenson; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased in death by her parents James H. and Mary M. Stevenson; her sister, Frances Stevenson; brother, Robert W. Stevenson; husband, Frank W. Avalone and son, Eugene E. Avalone.

She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Middleton for providing Eucharistic ministry to Mary during her illness, Home Health Hospice and Independent Living for their compassionate care. A visitation will be held August 16, 2014, at 10:30am at St. John's Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee, WI with a memorial service to follow at 11am. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
