Mary Dahl

Deerfield/Mt. Horeb - Mary Ann (Wang) Dahl, age 76, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Agrace Hospice Care after a brief illness. She was born on October 8, 1938, in Madison to Sidney & Lorena (Kiesow) Wang. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Sanford Dahl on November 8, 1958. Mary Ann worked at the Bank of Deerfield and later, as a secretary at Deerfield Lutheran Church while raising her children. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher/Director, member of Madison Area Reading Council, and Sons of Norway.
After owning and operating Deerfield Hardware Hank with her husband, Mary Ann went on to further her education. She graduated from UW Whitewater with a Bachelors of Science in Education (Cum Laude) in 1988 and a Master of Science in Education in 1991. Her teaching career included the school districts of Cambridge, Minocqua and Mt. Horeb. Mary Ann was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and retired in 2012 after 20 years of teaching.
Mary Ann loved to bowl, was an avid NASCAR fan (Matt Kenseth), and enjoyed counted cross stitch, cooking, baking and gardening. Times spent with family playing cards and board games, cooking and baking for family dinners, attending grandchildren's activities and the annual Christmas BINGO brought Mary Ann great joy.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 56 years, Sanford; children, Janet, Robert (Brenda), Dennis (Cody), Jennifer (Chuck) Lovelace, grandchildren, Cassandra, Harry, Alex, Allison, Cheyanne, Kaitlyn, Shelby, Jorgen, Nate, Charlie and great grandchildren, Harry, Taylor, Dayne, Deacon and Owen. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Renee, son-in-law Bill Hinrichs, brothers-in-law Clifford Dahl and Joseph Hoel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S. Main Street, Deerfield. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home in Deerfield, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services Wednesday at church.
Remembrances may be made by bringing a gift of a children's/young adult book to be donated in Mary Ann's name throughout the community.
