Marvin Young

MIDDLETON- Marvin "Marv" T. De Young, age 77, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born on March 22, 1938 in Friesland, WI to the late John N. De Young and Marion (Tillema) De Young. Marv's family also includes brothers Don (Betty) De Young of Friesland and Norbert (Pauline "Polly") De Young of Friesland (deceased December of 1969); sister Jane (Bernie) Wendricks of Madison; daughters Susan Porter of Denver, CO, Sandra De Young of Oshkosh, WI, and JoAnn (Stephen) Meissner of Glendale, WI; step-sons Marvin Miller of Panama City, FL and Mark Miller of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren Natalie, Ross, and Jack; step-grandchildren Harrison, Regan, Anthony, Allyson, and Shelby. He will also be missed by dear friend Arleigh Porter, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and former co-workers.
Marv married Anna Marie Mishler in November of 1961, and she preceded him in death on September of 1997. Marv then spent many years with his longtime companion, Gloria Lowery, and she passed away in April of 2004. Marv later married Georgia Ann Rayburn in December of 2006, and she preceded him in death in July of 2012.
Marv attended Cambria/Friesland High School, Class of 1956. He went on to attend a series of schools to further his education degree including University of Minnesota-Mankato where he received his bachelor's degree and University of Wisconsin-Stout where he received his master's degree. Throughout his career, Marv taught two years at Kimball High School in Kimball, MN, five years at St. Francis High School, five years at Madison Memorial High School, and he was assistant principal at Middleton High School for 21 years before he retired.
Marv served our country by enlisting in the United States Army. His military journey included a stay in France, and he eventually retired from the armed forces as a Master Sergeant after 29 years of dedication.
Outside of his love of education, Marv was a devoted Wisconsin sports fan including the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and Packers. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends. Marv was a talented singer having joined in the college choir, church choir, and the Madison Barbershop Chorus. His other hobbies included woodworking, gardening, and traveling.
A Celebration of Life for Marv will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6101 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705. Gathering will take place from 9:30-11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorial contributions that they will be sending to the Wounded Warrior Project and a local cancer research organization.
