Marvin A. Thorson

Stoughton- Marvin A. Thorson, age 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Nazareth House in Stoughton. He was born in Busseyville on May 22, 1922, the son of Theodore and Melia (Peterson) Thorson. Marvin attended many rural schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for five years. Marvin received many metals including two purple hearts and four bronze stars, and was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 19, 1948 he married Leona Stai. Marvin worked as an auto mechanic for Dvorak Chevrolet for over 40 years. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and spending time with his family. Marvin was a proud member of the Stoughton VFW Post 328. He is survived by his three children, Allen (Phyllis), Roger (Cathy Rigdon) and Judy Johnson, all of Stoughton; five grandchildren, Tim (Shelby), Becky (Jeremy), Todd, Sara (Greg) and Jennifer (Matthew); eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona in 1996; son-in-law, Roger ""Dave"" Johnson in 2008; granddaughter, Sara Johnson in 1983; siblings, Thea Olson, Inger Jacobson, Helen Stai, Roman ""Ole"" Thorson and John Thorson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery South. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the burial. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services at church on Tuesday.
