Marvin Statz

March 5, 1947 — November 19, 2017

Marvin H. Statz passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 19, 2017. He was the 7th son born to Albert and Elizabeth Statz on March 5, 1947 at their home in Cross Plains.

Marvin graduated from Middleton High School in 1965. He married Elvira (Vera) Ripp on May 2, 1968 at St. Peter's Church in Ashton, WI and enjoyed 49 years together, most of which was at their home in Waunakee, WI. Marvin proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969; he also served as a volunteer firefighter in Waunakee for 18 years.

Aside from being a patriotic man, Marvin was also one of the hardest workers around, not retiring until he was 70 years old. His work career included jobs at Qual Line Fence, The Bruce Company, Meffert Oil, and Klemm Tank Lines. He was also proud to be Chairman on the Waunakee Board of Appeals for many years. He gave his all every day, both at work and in his home life.

The most important thing in Marvin's life by and large was his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether it be over the holidays or random visits. Every grandchild had a nickname, which he lovingly paired with a pat on the head. You couldn't ever escape his presence without hearing one of his notorious jokes.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Vera, and their four children; Bruce (Shelly) Statz of Dane, Tracy (Rich) Johnston of Ashton, Sam (Marta) Statz of Menasha, and Jill (Tim) Roszel of Portland, OR as well as ten grandchildren; Trevor and Lucas Statz, Sarina, Reece, and Regan Johnston, Madigan, Jackson, Clayton, and Cecelia Statz, and Isaac Roszel. He is also survived by ten brothers and sisters; Barbara Endres (Mount Horeb), Raymond (Harriet, Waunakee), Ken (Alice, Alma Center), Joe (Kay, Cross Plains), Paul (Waunakee), Mike (Gale, Mineral Point), Mary Ellen MacLucas (Camille, Apple Valley - CA), Elmer (Lisa, Ashton), Gregg (Reno - NV), Mark (Wendy, Ft Atkinson); and a sister-in-law, Arlene Statz (Prairie du Sac). He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Mathilda Ripp (Waunakee), Cathy Niesen (Bob, Waunakee), Betty Treinen (Jerry, Deforest), Jim Ripp (Joanne, Oregon), Agnes Schlimgen (Harold, Mount Horeb), Mary Breunig (Ken, Dane), Dave Ripp (Eunie, Wautoma). And additionally, by his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Albert and Betty Statz; brothers, Donny, Harold, and Dick; brother-in-law, Matt Endres; sisters-in-law, Helen Statz, Joan Statz and Monica Hering; father-in-law, Albert Ripp; and infant sister-in-law, Laura Mae Ripp.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov 26, 2017 at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery with full Military Honors and Fire Dept. service.

Marvin made friends wherever he went and has left his mark on the world in so many ways and will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him. We miss you and love you so much, Marvin/Dad/Grandpa/Murf. Luf.

A luncheon and celebration of Marvin's life and his union of 49½ years with Vera will be held at the Inn Keeper immediately after the graveside rites.

Thank you Marvin for our beautiful family! May you rest in God's arms free of all your earthly pain. I love you more.
