Martha Winterble Erickson, 94, of Madison, WI, passed away on January 21, 2013. Born to the late Freda (Keyes) and William Winterble on October 22, 1918 in Richland Center, WI, Martha attended West High in Madison, WI (member NHS). She attended Carleton College in MN where she was prom queen, a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1941. After college, she worked in the executive offices of Pepsi Cola in Long Island City upon winning the National Walt S. Mack Pepsi Job Awards Contest. In 1944, she was appointed to the Office of Strategic Services as research librarian in the map division.
Beloved mother to sons J. Mark Roberts (Jane) and Steven Roberts and stepmother to Victoria Erickson, Elizabeth Robinson, T. Charles Erickson and Alexandra Golinkin. Treasured grandmother to Cameryne Roberts, Adam Roberts (Carie), and Leah Roberts.
Martha also leaves behind 3 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many beloved friends and neighbors. Active in many charitable organizations throughout her life, Martha was particularly involved with Bethel Lutheran Church and DAR.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Theodore Erickson, sister and brother-in-law Governor and Barbara Jean Handley (IN), brother William Winterble, daughter Claudia Roberts, and step-grandaughter Jennifer Robinson.
Services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison on Thursday, January 31 at 11am. Visitation at 10am. Memorials may be made to Bethel Church or Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg, WI.
