Obituary

Marlene Ann Crawford, age 85, of Poynette, WI, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Marlene was born on July 15, 1940, to Melvin and Violet (Farr) Marks in Dane, WI. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic Grade School in Dane and later attended Lodi High School.

On February 23, 1957, she married the love of her life, James E. Crawford. Together they built a beautiful life and shared many cherished memories, residing in Poynette for the past 35 years.

Marlene was an avid baker who lovingly prepared delicious treats each holiday season for her family and friends. Her kindness, warmth, and thoughtful nature touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Always the life of the party, Marlene loved to dance, play cards, and, most of all, spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Traveling was another passion of hers, especially in her younger years. She and Jim enjoyed many vacations to Mexico with a close-knit group of friends and treasured time spent socializing with family and loved ones.

Music held a special place in Marlene’s heart, from listening to country music to playing the accordion while proudly marching in many parades.

Marlene is survived by her devoted husband, James E. Crawford; her daughters, Debbie (Alex) Contreras and Jean (Paul) Olivares; her son, Duane (Lisa) Crawford; her brother, Stan (Mary) Marks; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Violet Marks; her son, James Allen Crawford; her sister, Donna Taylor; and her brother, Rodney Marks.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. A light luncheon will be held after at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee where loving memories will be shared.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at UW Hospital, HospiceCare, and Dove Nursing Home in Lodi for their compassionate care.
