Marjory "Marge" Preston

July 9, 1938 — May 8, 2026

Madison

Marjory "Marge" Christine (Lucht) Preston, the youngest of eight, was born on July 9, 1938 in LaValle, Wisconsin, to Peter and Christine Lucht. On May 8, 2026 she left The Sonnet at Tennyson in Madison, WI and joined the angels in heaven.

Marge grew up on the family farm near LaValle and graduated from Wonewoc High School. She moved to Madison where she married and had two children: Steven (Jeanne) of New Glarus and Susan Deon of Cottage Grove.

Along with being a caring mom, Marge was a career woman working her way up the ranks at American Family Insurance where she eventually earned the role as a commercial underwriter. In 1978, she was awarded Woman of the Year of the Wisconsin Chapter of American Business Women's Association.

After she retired, Marge volunteered at the Monona Senior Center and Olbrich Botanical Gardens. She was an avid reader, collector of books and angels and enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

Marge was affectionately known as "Honey Grandma" to her six grandchildren: Rachel Preston, Michael (Marie) Preston, Michelle Preston, Jacob (Nikki) Deon, Shelby Deon and Ethan Deon. Her grandkids have many wonderful memories of their time with Honey Grandma. Marge was a great-grandma to Paisley, Evelynn, Sylvie, John, Audrey, Ellie and Olivia. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who fondly recall Aunt Marge.

Marjory was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Renata, Louise, Trudy, Leota and her brothers, Leo, Bill and John.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at The Sonnet at Tennyson and Brighton Hospice for the wonderful care Marge received during her final months.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5202 Cottage Grove Road in Madison with Pastor Dan O'Brien officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private burial service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Marjory's name to Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
