Stoughton- Marion Jane Shriver, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Harmony Living Center of Stoughton. She was born on September 8, 1924, the daughter of Lyman and Christina Hawkinson. Marion was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was adored by all who ever met her. Marion never lost her sense of humor and welcoming ways. She made an impact on everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all. We always told her how much everyone enjoyed being around her and she would happily reply "of course, I am so delightful." Marion had a long beautiful life full of many wonderful accomplishments and talents. She was an accomplished ice skater, performing at the Edgewater Hotel and at the Chicago Coliseum. Marion placed second in the 1946 Miss Wisconsin pageant. She enjoyed painting and participating in many forms of arts and crafts. Over the years Marion entertained many people and was an excellent cook. She was always a very hard worker and took pride in everything that she did. Marion was a well known waitress/head waitress at many restaurants, including the Edgewater Hotel, Hoffman House, Holiday Inn and Pooles. She was very proud of the fact that many well known people would request her as their waitress, such as Arthur Godfrey, Oral Roberts and the Goodman Brothers. Marion is survived by her son, Greg; stepchildren, Rosemary (Dick) Garber, Becky (Pat) Bevans, John Shriver and Helen Bergman; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Hoveland; two brothers, Lyman (Pat) and Phillip (Carol) Hawkinson; four sister-in-laws, Donna, Irene, Ann and Bev Hawkinson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; five brothers, Lloyd, Harlow, Roger, Donnie and Marvin; and sister, Lorraine Frame. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services at church on Friday. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Marion herself has survived stomach cancer early in her life. The family would like to send a special thank you to Harmony Living Center and to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. for all of their special care given to Marion.
