Marion Hofeldt

Madison-Marion R. Hofeldt, age 92, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Oakwood Village East, Madison. She was born on February 29, 1920 in Peru, IL, the daughter of A.O. & Ruth Meyer. Marion spent her early years in West Allis. She was a graduate of West Allis H.S. & the University of Wisconsin, Class of 1942. While a student at the UW she met her future husband John Hofeldt. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended midshipman's school at the University of Columbia. Upon his return they were united in marriage in West Allis at St. John's Lutheran Church. After the war Marion & John returned to Madison so John could finish law school. He finished in 1947 and they moved to Chicago where John practiced law for 50 years. During this time in Chicago, Marion & John were blessed with three children, Nancy, Bill & Mark. After the children were grown, Marion went to Pestalozzi Froebel Teacher's College and earned her teachers certificate. She taught for 15 years in the South Suburbs of Chicago. Marion also did some volunteer work with the Red Cross Grey Lady at a local hospital and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She has lived at Oakwood Village East, Madison, since 2000. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and a great grandchild. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tree of Life Chapel, Oakwood Village East, 5565 Tancho Dr., Madison with Rev. Bryon Bunge officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Marion was always friendly & generous. She took great pride in her grandchildren. Memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee or Oakwood Village East Foundation would be appreciated.
