Marilyn Slautterback

Marilyn Clarke Slautterback of Madison died Friday, June 29, 2012. She was born in North Reading, Massachusetts, moved to West Newton, and in 1943 graduated from Newton High School and from Wellesley College in 1947. After two years as a Lab Technician at the Harvard affiliates, Children's Hospital and Farber Center, she moved to New York City and joined the staff at Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Institute where she met her husband, David, whom she married on June 10, 1952. (She celebrated her sixtieth wedding anniversary this year.) Their two daughters were born in New York and after moving to Madison in 1959, their two sons were born in Madison. As the children grew in independence she returned to out-of-home work, first, as an Aide to Senator Carl Thompson and then as Assistant Director of the Bureau of Aging in The Department of Health and Human Services (now Family Services). There she continued until her retirement in 1996. Marilyn was a long time and active member of The League of Women Voters and of The First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups and Boards of Directors of Elder Care and Meriter Retirement Services among other activities with numerous charitable groups.
Marilyn Slautterback was a gracious, kind, compassionate, and generous person and will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her husband, four children, five grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and her brother Joseph and wife Marian of Herndon, Virginia.
