MADISON
Marilyn Knutson, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born in Dodgeville, WI on August 21, 1929, to the late Oscar and Blanche (Stenerson) Rude.
Marilyn grew up on a farm in Dodgeville and graduated from high school in 1946. She attended UW Madison and graduated in 1950 with a degree in English. She taught high school English in Westby where she met John Knutson. John and Marilyn were married in 1952 and she continued to teach for five more years. They welcomed a daughter in 1957 and a son in 1968. Marilyn was the ultimate homemaker - sewing beautiful clothes, gardening, baking, entertaining, and always wearing high heels. She was a member of Gudrid for over 50 years. She served as a church choir director for many years, and gave piano lessons throughout her life. She and John celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2002. Marilyn is loved and will be missed and remembered by many good friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Julienne (Gerard) Joab and their children Risa, Rebekah and Erika; and son, Timothy (Amy) and their children, Dallas, Ryan and TJ. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Dorothy Edgington, and husband John.
We will be honoring her love of church and hymns with a Memorial Service Hymn Sing on Tuesday, May 16th at 3 p.m. at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison. Private burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.
