Marie Roeber, age 60, from Waunakee went to be the Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2018 after a 12-month battle with a malignant brain tumor, (glioblastoma). She was peacefully surrounded by her husband, Tim; sister, Anita; and brother-in-law, Mike at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg where she had resided for the last three months.
Marie was born December 25, 1957 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Richard and Gloria (Hoffmann) Roeber. She attended Edgewood Grade School and went on to graduate from James Madison Memorial High School (Class of 1976), both in Madison. Four years later she was united in marriage to longtime sweetheart, Timothy Swanson.
Marie was an especially devoted nurse. In 1979, she graduated as an RN from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing. She went on to receive her BSN at Rockford College. Marie's nursing degree, complemented by love of her profession, allowed her to work in a wide range of care from pediatric to psychiatric nursing care. Her specialty was psychiatric and dementia patients and her passion was being an instructor in the psychiatric nursing field. She mentored many and saved countless lives through her 40-year career. Eventually she went on to start her own business, Spouses Serving Seniors, in Waunakee, using her gifts to help dementia patients. She was a beautiful and special lady who had a flair for and enjoyed fashion, home decorating and shopping. She loved music and had many fond memories of singing with family, especially during holidays, which brought her great joy. Marie had a love and passion for pets and was never without at least one, usually more. She loved to cuddle up with them at day's end which added peace, tranquility and much enjoyment to her life.
Marie is survived by her husband, Timothy Swanson; her sister, Anita; and brother-in-law, Mike Ashworth. She is further survived by several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Gloria (Hoffmann) Roeber; her brother, Gregory Roeber; and her grandparents, Anita and Nelson Hoffmann and Rosalyn and Henry Roeber.
Visitation will be held at Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q in Waunakee on Saturday, February 10th from 10 am to noon. A memorial service will follow.
