Marian Skille

August 29, 1931 — August 13, 2023

Fitchburg

Marian Skille died August 13, 2023 just shy of her 92nd birthday.  She was born Aug 29, 1931, child of Tony and Celia Schiavo.

Marian graduated from Madison Central High School at the age of 16 and worked at Wisconsin Telephone Company.  Marian met her husband, Leo, at a dance on March 19, 1951 and married him the following year on May 17, 1952.  Until 1967 she was a stay at home mom and later worked at the State of Wisconsin.

Leo & Marian were actively involved in Youth Hockey, loved to square dance and camp.  Leo was a member of the WI AIR NATIONAL GUARD and were fortunate to attend military events.  They traveled all over to watch her grandson, Jack, play hockey including the Check Republic, Sweden, Ottawa and Vancouver.

Marian loved to entertain and hosted parties before dinner dances, after hockey games and neighborhood holiday events.  She enjoyed crocheting and knitting afghans for her family and friends and making cream cheese mints for family weddings.  Her rum cakes at Christmas time were a great hit with family and neighbors.  Marian loved playing cards and with her Euchre friends in Middleton & Verona.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Laura (Ken) Sanden, Mike (Lori) Skille, grandchildren Amy (Ross) Gilbertson, Jack (Sara) Skille and Claire (Tyler) Zastrow, great grandsons Cooper Gilbertson, Leroy Skille and Gus & Will Zantow along with many nieces and nephews.

She was processed in death by her husband, Leo, in 2012, her parents, her sister, Roselyn Amato, her brother James Schiavo and nephew Tony Schiavo.

A special thanks to her great niece, Rosalind Williams, her husband, Brent Williams, and their four daughters, Samantha, Hadley, Kate and Emily.  They spent many wonderful times together.

There will be a small church service at Our Lady Queen of Peace church on August 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will take place one hour prior.  Her ashes will be buried near her husband at Resurrection Cemetery.

She requested to be cremated because “that’s the only way I can have a smokin’ hot body”!
