Maria Dubrovsky passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at her home following two-and-a-half-year battle with lung cancer.

Maria was born on January 11, 1944, in the city of Kirov, USSR to Lev and Elizabeth Makharinsky during WWII, third of four sisters. After the war, family returned to their native Kyiv, Ukraine. 

Maria married Roman in 1970 and had her only daughter in 1971. Maria graduated from Odessa Electro-technical Institute of Communications and worked as a design engineer at Ukrainian State Institute of Cellulose for 18 years until the family immigrated to Madison, WI in 1989. In Madison, Maria finished Wisconsin School of Electronics as a CAD designer and upon graduation worked for Madison Telecoms company until her retirement in 2006.

Maria had many interests and hobbies, of which reading, travelling, walking and working out were just a few to name. She enjoyed a buoyant social life. After Maria’s retirement, she and Roman travelled extensively across North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Maria was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roman and her daughter Julia and husband Paul Mitchell of Cobham, UK and their daughter Katy. Also, by her sisters Natasha Dolgonos of Centennial, Co., Ludmila Kaplan of Salt Lake City, UT., and her cousin Toma Rukhelman of Newtonville, MA. 

A private memorial for Maria will be held at Cress Funeral Services in Middleton, WI by invitation.
