Marguerite Rietveld

Mary Marguerite "Rete" Rietveld died at her home in Madison on June 26, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born on March 12, 1923 in Harvey, IL to Isaac and Elizabeth Bardwick Rietveld. She grew up in Chicago Heights, IL.
Marguerite received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she lived at 4-H House. She taught private piano lessons for most of her life in both South Holland, IL and in Madison, WI. She was an active member of the American Guild of Piano Teachers and often judged piano competitions throughout the Midwest. Much of her professional life was spent teaching music at Kennedy-King Community College in Chicago as well as directing choirs and playing the organ in churches near her homes in South Holland and Madison.
Besides a lifelong passion for music, Marguerite also loved international travel and was always glad to talk about her favorite trips, especially in Asia and Europe.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Fishbain (Jerome Fishbain) in Madison; her niece, Beth Rietveld (Sam Stern) in Corvallis, OR; her nephews Don Rietveld (Donna Rietveld), Dyer, IN and Ken Rietveld, Mundelein, IL; Jason Fishbain (Tami Fishbain), Madison; and nieces Sarah Leonard (Chris Leonard), Anchorage, AK and Rachael Hagen (Dan Hagen), Beaver Dam, WI and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Rietveld and her nephew, Tim Rietveld.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at Oakwood Village, 6205 Mineral Point Road in Madison from 3:30-6:00pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Please share your memories.
