Margaret Blanche (Schmitt) Werla age 95, formerly of Dane WI and currently residing in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was born on July 19, 1931 in Dane, Wisconsin, thedaughter of Margaret and Peter Schmitt. She married Urban J. Werla on October 20, 1956 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Dane, Wisconsin. Margaret was a graduate of Lodi High School. In her early adult years Margaret and Urban worked the family farm, with Margaret taking the lead in establishing a warm andwelcoming home. After Margaret and Urban retired from farming Margaret took on work outside of her home. She took great pride in her work ethic and often spoke of her treasured job at The Past and Present Shop in Cross Plains Wisconsin. Margaret enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, cooking, baking and needle crafts. Her family has many special memories of Grandma’s holiday meals! Margaret was an active member of the community and provided  countless hours of volunteer work over her lifetime.

She is survived by her two daughters Ann (David) Patek of Oshkosh and Jean (Jeff) Rosemeyer of Dorchester. She is also survived by a special niece Julie (Greg) Ryan of Davis, IL and one sister Janet Stace Schmitt of Lodi, WI. Margaret has four grandsons James (Julia) Patek of LaCrescent, MN, Robert (Bridget) Patek of New Berlin, WI, Benjamin (Eryn) Rosemeyer of Bozeman. MT, and Lucas (Megan) Rosemeyer of Madison, WI and three special grandchildren Matthew Ryan of Beloit, WI, Bridget Ryan of Boulder, CO, and Hannah (Eric) Vale of Monroe, WI.

She has five great grandchildren: Grace Patek, Charles Patek, Penny Rosemeyer, Gael Rosemeyer, and Thea Rosemeyer. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Urban Werla, her parents, Peter and Margaret Schmitt, her father and mother in law, Thomas and Katherine Werla, siblings Evelyn Gilles, Roman Schmitt, Eloi Schmitt, Viola Schmitt, Luann Schmitt, and Norbert Schmitt. She is also preceded by sisters and brothers in law.

Margaret was well loved in life and will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace!

Funeral services will be on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Dane, WI. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., a mass of Christian burial will follow visitation at 11:00. A grave side service will follow and lunch will be held in the church hall.
