Obituary

Margaret Ann Schaub (Johnson), age 83, passed peacefully from this world on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and her devoted fur babies.

Born on January 2, 1943, in Freeport, Illinois, to Herbert E. Johnson and Paschal M. Johnson (Flannery), Margaret grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Central High School. She worked for Dane County for many years and later found great joy working alongside her daughters at Adventures in Learning Childcare.

On February 17, 1962, Margaret married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Paul R. Schaub, at St. James Catholic Church. Together they built a beautiful life and shared more than 64 years of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They raised six children, five daughters and one son, in their small home along the shores of Lake Mendota, where family was always at the center of everything they did.

Margaret had a remarkable gift for making a house feel like a home and a family feel deeply loved. She found joy in drawing, painting, sewing, fishing, hunting, gardening, and canning. Whether creating something beautiful with her hands or sharing time with those she loved, she poured her heart into all she did.

Known for her strength, resilience, and generous spirit, Margaret faced life's challenges with incredible courage. A multiple-time cancer survivor, she was a true warrior whose determination inspired everyone around her. More importantly, she loved fiercely, cared deeply, and touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering support.

Margaret is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Paul Schaub; her five daughters, Rhonda (Larry) Breunig, Denise (Bernie) Schwartz, Paula (Jeff) Breunig, Colleen (Les) Hoven, and Kathy (Shane) Miller; and her nine cherished grandchildren, Sara (David) Schwartz, Brian Breunig, Brad Breunig, Jon (Julia) Schwartz, Brittany Breunig, Lizzie (Ian) Grau, Cody Miller, Owen Schaub, and Claire Schaub. She was also blessed with two beloved great-grandsons, Hank and Waylon Schwartz. She is further survived by her loving in-laws, June (Peter) Sturgis, Dorann (Ron) Holl, and Marilyn Johnson, as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, extended members, and dear friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved son George; her parents; her brothers, Bob and Bill Johnson; her sister, Janice Johnson; and several cherished in-laws.

While our hearts ache with her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and reunited with her son, George. We can only imagine the joy of that long-awaited embrace. Margaret's love, strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5,2026 at 11:00a.m. at St Mary of the Lake Catholic Church 5460 Mary Lake Rd. A Celebration of Life will follow at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee. Burial will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery in Madison.

A special thank you to all the staff from Agrace Hospice Care, you truly are angels here on earth!
