Margaret Murphy

December 7, 1927 — April 30, 2016

Madison - Margaret "Peg" C. Murphy, age 88, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 30, 2016, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Peg was born in Waterloo, IA on December 7, 1927, and was the only child of William and Naomi (Hollenbeck) Corrigan. In her teen years she and her widowed father lived in Peoria, IL, where she attended Spaulding Academy, and in Madison. She then lived in San Francisco and Chicago, working for a variety of organizations, included Leo Burnett Advertising. While in Chicago she met and married Tom Murphy, in 1963 at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church. Soon after, they moved to Madison where they raised their three children and have lived for 51 years.

Peg spent many fun years working at the UW ticket office. In at the early 1980s, Peg and the late Jane Schiefelbein founded and operated the Balloon Bunch, which was the first business of its kind in the Madison area. She was also a very active volunteer at Blessed Sacrament School and Church, where they have been members since moving to the area.

Peg had many dear friendships in Madison as well as with several families in Chicago and Peoria. She enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting and quilting and sold some of her works in Madison craft stores. Peg had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and touched many people's lives.

In addition to Tom, Peg is survived by twin daughters Molly (Andrew) Walloch, of Greenfield, WI and Meghan (Scott) Selby, of Apple Valley, MN, as well as her son, Matthew (Molly), of Glen Ellyn, IL, and eight grandchildren--Nicholas and Cory Walloch, Lauren and William Selby and Jack, Cam, Ali and Aidan Murphy.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ashwabay House for the incredible care given to Peg over the last 5 years and to Agrace Hospice for their help with Peg and her family in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, 517 N. Segoe Rd, Madison, WI.
