Margaret Merry

In Loving Memory

Margaret Merry, age 83, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 of a chronic illness. Margaret was born March 17, 1931 to Martin J. and Helen(Gulbransen) Glasby in Rochester, Minnesota. She grew up and was educated in Rochester. Following high school she worked for one year at the Mayo clinic as a medical records courier followed by two years at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois receiving a B. A degree. Margaret entered nursing school at Wesely Memorial Hospital AKA Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. receiving a B.S. in nursing as a registered nurse in 1954. She worked as head nurse at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago in Orthopedics for two years. Margaret married Bruce Merry on October 8, 1955 at Howe Memorial Chapel on the Northwestern University Campus, Evanston, ILL. Bruce's work in the auto industry resulted in transfers to Milwaukee, Wausau and Madison. Margaret worked for the visiting nurse service in Wausau for two years, then as director of nursing at City View for nine years and director of nursing at Karmenta for nine years in Madison. She then worked for five years at Willowbrook in Lake Mills as director of nursing and then she retired in 1993. Margaret is survived by her son Scott ( Lori) Merry and two grandchildren Lindsay ( Nick) and Travis and great grandson Bentley. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Pamela ( age 4) and her parents.
