Margaret Fauerbach

Madison--Margaret Helen Fauerbach, age 93, passed away Sunday May 26, 2013. Margaret was born in Sparta, Wisconsin on November 23, 1919 to Dr. Harry J. O'Connell and Helen Willett O'Connell. Margaret and her sister became residents of Madison in 1933 and attended Edgewood boarding school. They later graduated from Edgewood High School and Edgewood College. Margaret then attended and graduated from Madison Business College. On January 16, 1943 she married the love of her life, Walter T. (Wally) Fauerbach. She was a member of both Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for Reiten-Lerdahl Insurance for four years and for the University of Wisconsin Division of Residence Halls for fifteen years. She and her husband then purchased and operated Fauerbach Fine Foods supermarket for 23 years.
Margaret and Wally jointly received the Downtown Rotary Club's Senior Service Award and the Mazzachelli Award for service to Christian Education from Edgewood High School. Margaret also received a Special Service Award from Edgewood High School for over twenty years of volunteerism and Edgewood College awarded her with the Presidential Service Award for her commitment to the college.
Margaret was affiliated with many organizations including the Dane County Shamrock Club, Edgewood High School Auxiliary, Madison Club, Madison Civics Club, Madison Catholic Woman's Club, State Historical Society of Wisconsin, Merrill Historical Society, Edgewood High School's Heritage Society, Edgewood College's Emerald Club and the Washburn Society.
Margaret is survived by her sister Mrs. Bernard C. (Kathleen) Cerutti, Madison, WI, niece Mrs. Thomas F. (Margaret) McGarrity, Briarcliff Manor, NY, nephew Patrick B. (Dee) Cerutti, Spokane, WA, great nieces Beth McGarrity Farris, Susan Cerutti Jensen, Gina Ceutti Smith, great nephew Thomas B. McGarrity, great great niece Lindsey Smith and many beloved cousins, friends and members of her husband's family. Besides nieces and nephews she was "Aunt Margaret" to countless cousins, former employees and children of friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, WI 53711 on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Michael Burke presiding. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Merrill, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of the donor's choice or, because of her strong belief in Catholic education, to Edgewood High School or Edgewood College would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff at Coventry Independent Living and also thank the staff at Sebring Assisted Living for their dedication and care.
