Margaret Beyl

March 13, 1924 — January 20, 2016

Margaret Jean (Wachter) Beyl, died at age 91 on Wed. Jan. 20, 2016. Jean was born on March 13, 1924 in Melrose, WI the oldest daughter of Howard and Hazel Wachter. She graduated from Melrose Public Schools in 1942 and went to work for the Pressure Cooker Company in Eau Claire. At that time they produced ammunition for the United States Armed Forces. After WWII Jean went to La Crosse and worked for C.B. Rich Company until her marriage in June 1949 to Doyle Beyl. After the marriage they moved to Maple, WI where Jean worked as the first administrative secretary for the newly opened Maple Northwestern High School.
Jean was an active member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, was a leader of Vacation Bible School, member of the Alter Guild, and worked with the Luther League. She volunteered at Dudgeon School, University of Wisconsin Hospital Gift Shop, Oakwood Lutheran Homes Resale Store, was a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Madison Chapter of People to People.
Jean and Doyle were long time season ticket holders for Badger Football and Hockey games. They enjoyed spending many springs in Arizona cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.
She was a very accomplished knitter, keeping her family in beautiful sweaters, scarves and mittens. Some of her "church friends" asked her to teach them how to knit and so the "knitters" were established. The ladies meet weekly to work on their knitting. It is not known if anyone really learned to knit or finished a project. The women had so much fun that when their husbands retired, they joined the group and the fun just doubled. The husbands didn't knit, they worked on their golf game.
From 1972 to 1979 she traveled to Sioux Falls, SD every year to spend Mother Daughter Weekend at Augustana College with Kathleen and Nancy.
Jean enjoyed traveling with Doyle all over the United States and the world. During the holidays she loved to make cookies and candies to give to everyone, including teachers, neighbors, the mailman, and the crossing guards. Flowers from Doyle's garden gave here great joy, particularly yellow roses.
Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Doyle, her brothers Lawrence and Leo, and her sister Marion. She is survived by her daughters Kathleen (Daniel) Martinson of Whitefish Bay, and Nancy (Dennis) Berg of Cetreville, VA, grandsons Andrew (Maggie) Martinson and Matthew Martinson of Dallas, TX, and granddaughters Erika, Maren and Anna Berg of Centreville, VA, sisters-in-law Marjorie Beyl of St. Croix Falls, and Nancy Savre of Cyrus, MN, and many nephews and nieces.
Jean will be missed by her many dear friends and family, but we live in the faith we will be reunited in Heaven.
