Obituary

Marcia Lynn Rainwater beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend passed away on January 18, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 15,1945 to Olan and Marguerite Nincehelser in Topeka Kansas.

Marcia held a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master’s Degree in Education from Mid-American Nazarene College. A dedicated career elementary school teacher she loved teaching and enriched the lives of hundreds of young people.

A square dance class at the University of Central Arkansas in 1964 changed the direction of two lives. Marcia met Art Rainwater and they began a lifelong partnership. After marriage in 1966 they began a journey that included 5 states, world-wide travel and finally ended in Madison WI in 1994. Marcia loved everything about Madison and after her retirement from the Verona Area School District in 2008 she enjoyed an active and fulfilling retirement. Marcia made friends everywhere she went. Of all her many retirement activities she was particularly attached to her Mahjong friends and the Zentangles ladies at Oakwood Village.

Family was at the center of Marcia’s life. She was a much-loved wife and partner with Art. A great mom, she treasured her daughters Amye (Brad) Dunning and Heather (Paul) Rainwater Moen. She doted on four grandchildren Cheyann (Julian Hannett) Dunning, Colin Dunning, Drae (Anezka Helmers) Lick and Mathew Moen. Marcia is also survived by her sisters Carol (Joe) Burciaga and Chrissie (Sam) Thorpe.

The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who supported Marcia with compassion and care through the past three years. We are forever grateful for Dr. Lawrence Ozers, Dr. Jacqueline Mullvain and Dr. Timothy Baardseth of SSM Health Dean Medical Group, Dr. Kaitlyn Kelly, Dr. Kyla Bennett and Dr. Jennifer Comstock of UW Health and Ines Berna R.N. and the staff of Agrace Hospice for their unmatched skill and positive support.

Marcia Rainwater, a life well lived.
