McFarland- Lyman S. Woodman, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the UW Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Rockford, IL on August 29, 1942, the son of Clarence and Margaret Woodman. Lyman graduated from St. Thomas High School, and from Edgewood College with a Bachelor's degree in education with an emphasis on History. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1965 until 1993 as a Communications Technician. Lyman continued his military career as a Navy Recruiter until his retirement in 1993. He married the love of his life, Martha England, on August 16, 1969. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, socializing, and travelling. Lyman enjoyed his grandchildren and made sure to attend their activities. He touched the lives of many through his jokes, stories and passion for music. Lyman is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Krista (Mike) Hamilton of Arizona; Mike (Jessica) Woodman of Madison; three grandchildren, Nickolas, Samantha and Olivia; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Margie, Carolyn, Herbie and Charles. A memorial Mass and celebration of Lyman's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Avenue, Madison, WI 53711. A light luncheon will follow. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Saturday at church. A special thank you to the staff of UW Hospital for their care and compassion.
