Lucia Knutson passed away at her home on May 29th after a brief illness. She was born to Macy and Mabel Caucutt in Hillsboro, WI on June 26, 1925 where she grew up on the family farm and graduated from LaFarge high school. Lucia was employed at the Richland Center Hospital until her marriage to Edward Knutson in 1946, returning to work there after his death in 1955.
Lucia moved to southeastern Kentucky from 1963 to 1966 where she worked in the hospital at Red Bird Mission. After returning to Wisconsin, she earned her LPN and worked at Madison General Hospital (now Meriter) for sixteen years. She then provided private care for several elderly ladies in their homes until her retirement, when she joined the foster grandparent program at Central Wisconsin Center. She devoted the next 17 years to providing love and encouragement to the residents she called her special angels.
Lucia is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruby Caucutt, of Genesee Depot and nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Richard (Barb) Riddle of Tomah, Theron (Nancy) Moore of LaFarge, Lea Koch (Chuck Melvin) and Betty (Tom) Gall of Madison, Lenny (Ruth) Moore and Russell (Elaine) Moore of Janesville, Linda Steinmetz of Richland Center, Jerry Curtis of Mukwonago, Don (Kathy) Riddle of Delavan, Gordon (Liz) Caucutt of Waukesha, Bill (Rachel) Burwitz of Browntown, and Jim (Janet) Burwitz of Appleton. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brother Arwin Caucutt, sisters Beth (Emmett) Moore, Joyce (Leon) Riddle and Emily (Quentin) Burwitz, niece Charlene Caucutt, nephew Jerry Steinmetz and great-nephew Joshua Burwitz.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at TWIN VALLEY FREEWILL BAPTIST CHURCH, 4036 Twin Valley Rd., Middleton, WI 53562, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. .
Lucia's life was dedicated to her Savior and the caring of others. She will be remembered for her unshakable faith, strong convictions, and loving spirit. The joy and happiness Lucia shared brought smiles and laughter to many people whose lives she touched. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Willow Pointe Assisted Living, Agrace Hospice Care and Care Wisconsin. You have been such a comfort to the family.
