Luainne Marie Fleming, 86, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, on the eve of All Saints’ Day. Born on December 14 in Madison, Luainne spent her life rooted in the community she loved and surrounded by the family who meant everything to her.
Luainne’s love story began at Edgewood High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, John Fleming. Together, they shared 69 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and memories. Their family grew to include seven children, 24 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
A woman who loved fiercely, Luainne’s family was her greatest joy. She especially treasured holidays, cookie bakes with the Fleming girls, summer vacations with her in-laws and family, weekends at the cabin, and lastly, a little gambling. Funny, honest, and never one to shy away from telling it like it was, Luainne brought plenty of laughter to those around her.
She was full of knowledge when it came to baking, knew every stain-removing secret and cleaning trick, and seemed to know just about everything there was to know about children. If you had a question, chances were Luainne had the answer.
She loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports, grow into adulthood, and eventually become parents themselves. Being a wife, mom, and grandma was what she did best, and she wouldn't have wanted life any other way.
Faith was an important part of Luainne’s life. A lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church, she attended grade school there and regularly attended Mass throughout her life. Her father, Alfred, was also a member of St. James, making the church a meaningful part of her family’s history across generations.
Luainne is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John Fleming; her children, Kim Storch (John), Susie (Scott), Rick (Kathy), Tracy (Jeff) and Trisha (Troy); 24 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Wade and Steve; her parents, Agnes and Alfred; and her brother, Ron Schmelzer.
Luainne leaves behind the truest, greatest accomplishment: the family she built and the legacy she created.
Her family will miss the comfort of knowing she was always there, and will be remembered for her unwavering love, strength, loyalty, smile, and unmistakable sass.
Her family was the center of her world, and she spent 86 years making sure they knew just how much they meant to her. Though she is no longer with them, she will forever remain at the heart of the Fleming family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church 1204 St. James Court Madison. Visitation at Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
