Madison - Loyal H. Grovesteen, age 71 passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was born on June 22, 1943, the son of Miles and Thelma (Oftedahl) Grovesteen. Loyal proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1999. He also served many years in the AGR Program. Loyal worked for the United States Military for over 20 years until his retirement in 1999. On September 30, 1967, Loyal was united in marriage to Carol A. Rentz in Tomah, Wisconsin.
He was faithful member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Madison. In his spare time, Loyal enjoyed sports, playing cards and a good game of cribbage with his friend, Mac and his brothers. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family. His wife, daughters and granddaughters will always hold a special place in his heart.
Loyal is survived by his wife of 47 years; Carol Grovesteen, two daughters; Stephanie Grovesteen and Christine (Peter) Hansen, two granddaughters; Evelyn Jo and Lillian Ann, his two brothers; Gary (Mary Ann) Grovesteen, and their children; Greg and Colleen, Mitchel, Gayle (Jeremy) Fisher, Merridith and Matthew and Ronald (JoAnn) Grovesteen and their children; Jennifer (Dave) Vogl and Tyler and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, Atwood Ave, Madison, on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11:00 am with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Loyal to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 330 South Executive Drive #100A, Brookfield, WI 53005 or VA Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you the nursing staff at SICU, especially Karen; all of his physicians especially, Dr. Nicholas Haun; the respiratory therapy staff, palliative care team, VA Hospice staff and the care takers from BrightStar.
