Lowell Sorenson

January 27, 1944 — December 4, 2013

Lowell "Bert" Hagbert Sorenson, 69, of Madison passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, under the compassionate care of his family and the staff at Agrace Hospice.

He was born on January 27, 1944, in La Porte, IN, but grew up in Beloit, WI, before locating to Madison to start and raise his family. Bert worked first as a new car salesman for Zimbrick Buick, and later as a claims investigator for Cuna Mutual Insurance. He retired in 2002 and started a small firewood business, of which he was very proud, with his friend, Darrell Holtz. Bert was a generous man who got pleasure in life helping others, usually by employing his skills in engine repair and woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and boating. He loved sharing a joke and a laugh with friends and family, and hosting parties. Bert's joy for life and love for his family and friends will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice; father, Llewellyn; and former wife, and mother of his children, Judy Mislivecek.

Bert is survived by two sons, Scott Sorenson (Kara Ewers) and Curtis Sorenson; a sister, Kathy Rathbun of Moscow, ID; brother, Lew Sorenson (Gail) of Brattleboro, VT; grandchildren Kassi, Celina and Coty; great granddaughter Kairi, nephews and nieces Nick, Stacy, Chris, Becky, Julie and Ben; and his close friend, Rhonda Anderson.

Donations in Bert's name may be made to Agrace Hospice (AGRACE.ORG) or Meals on Wheels (HOMEHEALTHUNITED.ORG).

A celebration of Bert's life will be held at the Cress Center, 6021 University Avenue in Madison, on Sunday, December 8, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
