Louise Sande

April 1, 1925 — April 12, 2015

Louise M. Sande, age 90, Is now at peace with those she loved who passed before her. Her beautiful smile is now smiling down on us from Heaven. Louise was born on April 1, 1925, in Waunakee to Louis and Mary (Illgen) Diericks. She married Edwin Sande on May 3, 1947. He was her beloved and cherished husband and soulmate of more than 51 years. He preceded her in death in 1998. Together Edwin and Louise adopted their daughter, Mary, in 1958, and fulfilled a dream of becoming parents. She was a lifelong resident of Waunakee.
Louise graduated 8th grade from St. John's Catholic School and started working at Madison Kipp Corp. She worked as a telephone operator at the Waunakee Telephone Company for 18 years. In September of 1962, Louise received the Independent Telephone Company Pioneer Association award for service beyond the call of duty, an action that saved a life. After giving a Dane subscriber instructions for reaching his fire dept., she decided that he didn't sound natural so she called the Dane fire chief herself. Her call sent the department to the scene where it was found that the man had been overcome from smoke inhalation and had been unable to make that call for help himself. Later, Louise worked at the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Administration where she met many of her most cherished friends. She retired from the State in 1987, to take care of her grandchildren, Chris and Melissa, who she cherished with all her heart. Louise was a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church and had many hobbies including cooking, baking, and reading.

Louise will be dearly missed by her daughter, Mary Hellenbrand of Waunakee; granddaughter, Melissa Chandler of Sun Prairie; grandson, Christopher Chandler of Madison; special nephew and niece, Ken and Sharon Diericks; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; her cousin, Elaine Carlson; dear friends, Marlies, Rose Avery, and Charlotte Lochner; and her beloved cat, Buffy . Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin; her parents; sister, Caroline Gunsolus; her brothers, Raymond and Carl Diericks; son-in-law, Bradley Hellenbrand; sisters-in-law, Bernadette Diericks and Geri Sande; and brothers-in-law, Earl Gunsolus, and Harold, Larry and Idore Sande.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

Louise was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Special thanks to Sienna Crest Assisted Living and Agrace HospiceCare for their care and compassion over the last 18 months.
