Following his graduation from Whitewater, he went on to the U.S. Naval Flight Training Center in Pensacola, Florida. After receiving his Navy wings, he served for ten years as a Navy Pilot and flight instructor. Serving in the Pacific on the USS Yorktown during the Vietnam War, he had the distinction of successfully completing over 400 carrier landings during his career. Following his Navy service, he was a flight instructor for IASCO in Napa, CA where he trained commercial pilots for international airlines. He ended his career as Chief Flight Instructor for Japan Airlines at their flight training center in Napa.
Following his retirement from JAL, he moved to Idaho. He had been a frequent visitor to the Pocatello area over the years and enjoyed the sporting life it provided. He flew his Cessna 185 into remote camping areas for the hiking, fishing and hunting they offered. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and was active until the end. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
