Lorraine Kathryn Hammer

June 24, 1925 — October 23, 2010

Madison -- Lorraine K. Hammer died Friday, October 22, 2010 at HospiceCare.   She was the daughter of Fred and Laura Mercier of Rice Lake, Wisconsin.   She resided in Rice Lake throughout her youth.   She was married on June 24, 1947 to Arthur Hammer.   She started her volunteering in 1980 with the Red Cross, the Dane County Nursing Home, Badger Prairie Health Care Center and R.S.V.P.   In 1996 she became a volunteer at the VA Hospital for 10 years.   She was an active member of Kayra since 1986, where she met many friends. She is survived by her son, Greg (Jeannie); granddaughter, Sarah, of Xenia, Ohio; and grandson, Geoffrey, of Dayton, Ohio.   She is also survived by a brother, Stanley (Ester) of Rice Lake, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mercier of Eau Claire and Lois Hammer, of Maple Grove, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, her parents, a brother, Donald, of Eau Claire and sister, Llewellyn Davis of St. Paul, Minn. Lorraine would like to express her sincere gratitude to Sharon and John for their concern and thoughtfulness for the past many years.   Their friendship was close and special.   She would also like to express her appreciation to the Epp families -- Bill, Mike and Greg and also Mary Kreul for making her a part of their family gatherings for so many years. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH Church, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, WI 53711.   A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.   A visitation will also be held Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at APPLEYARD'S HOME FOR FUNERALS, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI 54868.   Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rice Lake.
