Madison, WI - Lorraine E. Hughes, age 93, died peacefully on Friday, April 11 in Madison, WI. Lorraine was a lifelong Madison resident, born January 8, 1921 along with her twin brother to Dr. Bernard T. Finnegan, DDS. and Alma C. (Waldorf) Finnegan. She was united in marriage July 17, 1948 to William H. Hughes son of Raymond R. and Lillian (Ross) Hughes of Madison at St Bernard's Parish. She graduated from East High School and attended Edgewood College. She was a former Gisholt employee in the purchasing department and worked several years until 1980 at Madison West High School in the Math Science Library. Lorraine was a true Irish Catholic mother who was proud of her family, heritage and active in her church. She enjoyed raising her family and was active with her children's activities. Lorraine supported and actively traveled with her husband Bill, former Commissioner of Credit Unions for Wisconsin under Gov. Lucey, Schreiber, and Dreyfus. In retirement they traveled extensively and lived many winters in Arizona. They were inseparable and you always found them together. She is survived by her son William H. (Carol) Hughes, Ph.D. of Greendale, WI; daughter Kathleen M. Hughes, Lone Rock, WI; grandchildren, Anne Hughes (Brian) Heindl, Patrick Hughes, and Maureen Hughes, Elizabeth (Tom) Keeney, Benjamin Keller, Matthew Keller, Sarah Keller; great grandchildren, Hugh Heindl and Ivan Keeney. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill of 56 years in 2004, sister Bernadette, brother Lawrence. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Memorials may be given to Agrace Hospice. https://www.agrace.org.
