August 15, 1936 — September 4, 2024

Waunakee

Loretta J. Kalscheur, age 88, passed away on September 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 15, 1936, at home in Waunakee, WI, to Ted and Margaret Laufenberg, Loretta graduated from Waunakee High School in 1954. On September 6, 1955, she married the love of her life, Joseph Kalscheur Jr. Together, they continued farming the Kalscheur family homestead and raised their family.

Loretta had a deep passion for gardening, traveling, bowling, playing cards, crafting, and relaxing at their cottage on Lake Wisconsin. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After dedicating herself to raising their seven children, Loretta took a position with CUNA, where she worked for many years, forming lasting friendships.

In her later years, Loretta lovingly cared for her husband, Joe, and remained devoted to her family and friends, always seeking ways to help them. Her volunteer work was extensive, including contributions to her church, schools, and the Middleton Senior Center. Loretta had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ashton and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Middleton.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; her children, Mike (Nanette) Kalscheur of Wheaton, Illinois, Rick (Barb) Kalscheur of Waunakee, Jean (Daryll) Manthe of Deforest, Judy Kalscheur of Middleton, Diane (Dale) Helt of Dane, Carol (Don) Statz of Waunakee, and Dan Kalscheur (friend Jennifer Kaminski) of Lodi. Loretta was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Kami Dodge, Jesse and Nick Kalscheur, Tina Ladwig, Joe Manthe, Hayden Sprysl, Devin, Derek, and Dean Helt, Brett and Payton Statz, Val Ash, Nicole Scheel, and Dylan Kalscheur. She also leaves behind 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She is survived by her siblings Marion Hellenbrand, Dorothy Statz, Henry (Shirley) Laufenberg, Margaret (Ken) Bernards, Alice (Dick) Weiss, and Ron (Jean) Laufenberg. Additional survivors include her in-laws Joanie Kalscheur, Sister Johanna Kalscheur, Bea and Roman (Bud) Statz, Mary Lou Schmitt, Wally Ripp, and Dorie French.

Loretta was preceded in death by her infant son, Joseph; her parents, Ted and Margaret Laufenberg; her in-laws, Joseph Sr. and Johanna Kalscheur; and her siblings-in-law: Shirley C. Laufenberg, Dave Statz, Delmer Hellenbrand, Don Kalscheur, Roman Schmitt, and Alberta Ripp.

Loretta brought love and laughter to all who knew her and lived her life with no regrets.

The family extends a special thank you to Debbie Poleski of Memories Respite and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care.
