Loretta Holmen

Loretta Holmen, age 80, passed away at Waunakee Home Again Memory Care Facility on Friday, May 31, 2024. She was born in Powers Lake, ND in 1944. Her parents were Mildred and Luther Grubb. She lived on a farm and went to a one-room country day school through the 8^th grade and graduated from High School in Powers Lake in 1962. She married Donald Holmen in 1964. She is survived by her husband Donald; her sister, Diane (Glen Stevens); daughters, Doneta (Tom Chorney) and Della (Joel Dahlman). She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Josh Holmen, Tilly (Ryan Peot), Abigail (Luke Taccola), Alicia (Skyler Cannon), Shelby Chorney, Bailey Chorney, and Amanda Dahlman. She was especially blessed with a great-grandson, Micah Taccola.

Loretta was a quality quilter and produced hundreds of beautiful quilts. Loretta lived her faith. She and her husband Donald were members of The Gideons’ International (Distributed bibles in hotels, prisons, and schools). Loretta went every Friday for 15 years to the Dane County Women’s Jail and gave each inmate a New Testament and prayed with and for them often.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Luther Grubb; and her precious son, Dalton Holmen.

Funeral services will be held on Wed., June 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 5763 County Road Q, Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. A reception will follow at the church. Memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice Care in Madison.
