Lloyd H. Lind

January 4, 1938 — February 16, 2025

Melbourne, Florida

Lloyd H. Lind, age 87, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his home in Melbourne, Fla., after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Lloyd was born on January 4, 1938, to John George Lind and Hildegarde (Kallenberger) Lind in Tacoma, Wash. As the son of a pastor, Lloyd had many fond memories of growing up surrounded by a loving family, including uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Lloyd graduated from Horlick High School in Racine, Wis., in 1956. Afterward, he joined the Army, serving for over two years overseas in France. He then returned to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Correctional Administration and a Master of Science degree in Social Work.

Lloyd began his career in corrections in June of 1964 in Black River Falls, Wis. Shortly after, he married Susan (FitzGibbon) Lind and started a family, welcoming two sons, Paul and Patrick. Lloyd moved several times, holding various positions in corrections, including Probation and Parole Agent and Unit Supervisor. In 1986 Lloyd was a Governor appointee to the Corrections Office of Administration, which precipitated his move to Madison, Wis. He ultimately retired in 1996 as the Social Services Director of Oakhill Correctional Institution.

In May of 1983, Lloyd remarried Donna Jean (Mitchell) Lind. Their union was the foundation of a wonderful and loving extended family, including Donna Jean's daughter, Lynnae, and son, Jim, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lloyd and Donna Jean lived happily, splitting their time between Madison, Wis. and Barefoot Bay, Fla., where they made many close friends. They cherished their time together, enjoyed the company of friends, and loved the family they built. Thanksgiving was always a special holiday, with the entire extended family making it a priority to gather and celebrate. This was especially special as it always brought an opportunity to spend time with brother Richard (Dick) Lind, his wife Meg and their children Margo and Kevin-Opa!

After Donna Jean's passing, Lloyd began returning to Florida for winters, where he developed a relationship with longtime friend LaVaughn "Pug" Swenson. Their friendship continued to blossom into a loving relationship. Lloyd and Pug were married in November of 2019. The two loved and supported each other until Lloyd's passing.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, John George and Hildegarde; his brother, Richard; his former wife, Susan; and his wife, Donna Jean. He is survived by his wife, LaVaughn "Pug" Swenson; children, Paul (DeAnna) Lind, Patrick (Sharon) Lind, Lynnae (Kevin) Mahaney, and Jim (Jody) Swentik; grandchildren, Alexandra Lind, Alaina Kiedinger, Theresa Kiedinger, Trevor (Mickenzie) Swentik, and Geena (Kyle) Garcia; and great-grandchildren, Waylyn, Sutton, River, and Silas.
