Lily Laper

Sun Prairie - Lily Helen Laper, age 95, entered eternal life with her Savior July 30, 2016, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, following a stroke on July 22, 2016. She was born on April 24, 1921, in New York City, the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Paul) Odin. Lily graduated from Custer High School in 1938 at the age of 17. On a date arranged by John Schaefer in October 1942, she met Ardin Laper, a student at the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Seminary. They were married on August 12, 1944, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. A call came from the Nebraska District Mission Board to open a mission in Omaha. There Good Shepherd Lutheran congregation was established. In September of 1951, she moved with her husband and four children to serve Peace Congregation in Wautoma, Wisconsin. In May 1959, she moved with her husband and six children to Sun Prairie WI. Their youngest child was born soon after the move. Lily worked as a Paste-up Artist for the Sun Prairie Star for many years.
Lily is survived by her husband of nearly 72 years, Pastor Ardin D. Laper; seven children, Lorie Judson (Jeff), Trudy Madetzke (Robert), Jenny Laper Davidson (Steve), Nicholas Laper (Kerry), Priscilla Vilhauer, Bonnie Sullivan, and Victoria Clemann (Douglas); fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two nieces, two nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Henry (Florence) Odin, nephews, Tom Odin and Gene Albright and a daughter, Alice May (stillborn).
Funeral services will be held at PEACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 232 Windsor St., Sun Prairie, on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Luke C. Werre officiating. Burial will take place at Sun Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
